In the first half of 2026 Tunisia recorded 665 road deaths—a 10 % rise over the same period in 2025—while total accidents fell 19 %. At the United Nations General Assembly, member states adopted a progress declaration that reiterates the 50 % reduction target for 2030, calls for national road‑safety strategies, lead agencies, improved data collection, stronger legislation and the “safe‑system” approach, and seeks to mobilise more than $10 million for road‑safety programmes in low‑ and middle‑income nations.

The North‑African figures contrast with the global downward trend, underscoring persistent regional challenges in driver behaviour, enforcement and road‑infrastructure safety.
