Morocco weather alert: heavy rain and thunderstorms expected
Morocco is facing unstable weather conditions as it transitions into autumn, with the Direction Générale de la Météorologie (DGM) issuing orange-level alerts for several regions. The weather patterns involve the interaction of humid tropical air masses with low-pressure systems from Northern and Southern Europe.
Significant thunderstorms, hail, and wind gusts are expected. In the southern provinces, including Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd, rainfall could reach up to 80 millimeters. Other areas such as Laayoune, Es-Semara, and Tarfaya are also expected to see precipitation between 30 and 40 millimeters.
Additional thunderstorms with accumulations of 20 to 30 millimeters are forecasted for various provinces, including Guercif, Taza, Al Hoceïma, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Berkane, Driouch, Nador, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, and Khénifra. A notable drop in temperatures is also anticipated as the week progresses. Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution near riverbanks and steep slopes due to the risk of flash flooding.
