North Africa weather: Heatwaves and storms hit Morocco, Libya, and Egypt

Multiple North African countries are facing significant weather shifts. In Morocco, the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued orange alerts for extreme heat, with temperatures expected to reach between 40 and 46 degrees Celsius in several provinces, including Kenitra, Agadir, and Marrakech. The heatwave is accompanied by strong local winds reaching up to 85 km/h in the Tangier-Tetouan region and potential thunderstorms with hail in southern provinces like Smara and Assa-Zag.

In Libya, the National Meteorological Center reports unstable weather in the northwest, characterized by thunderstorm activity and potential rainfall. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 32 and 39 degrees Celsius, with a gradual decrease expected soon. Authorities have warned of potential water accumulation in low-lying areas due to rain.

In Egypt, weather patterns are transitioning as summer ends. While northern regions and Cairo experience hot and humid conditions, southern Upper Egypt and South Sinai face extreme heat with temperatures potentially hitting 45 degrees Celsius. Morning fog is expected on several roads leading to Cairo and the Canal cities, and there is a slight chance of light rain in the Halayeb and Shalateen areas.
