Morocco's 2025 Economic Report Shows Prices Still 15% Above 2021 Levels and Weak Job Growth
The Economic, Social and Environmental Council’s 2025 annual report for Morocco notes that inflation fell to 0.8 % in 2025, yet overall consumer prices remain more than 15 % higher than in 2021. Food prices rose about 27 % over the same period, pressuring household purchasing power despite government support measures.
Unemployment edged down to 13 % but the labour market continues to suffer structural imbalances, especially for youth, women and degree holders. The average duration of unemployment is roughly 33 months and nearly half of workers lack written contracts. Investment between 2021 and 2025 reached roughly 1.704 trillion dirhams but generated only about 400 000 net jobs, indicating limited job‑creation impact.
The council calls for stronger mechanisms to protect purchasing power, reforms in distribution and marketing channels, tighter competition enforcement, and better targeting of public subsidies. It also urges integration of small and medium enterprises into global value chains, regional development to reduce geographic concentration, and sustainable financing for large projects slated for 2030.
