Morocco's consumer price index rises 1.2% in May 2026

The High Planning Commission reported that Morocco's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.2 % in May 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier. The rise was driven by a 2.6 % increase in non‑food prices, while food prices fell by 0.7 %. Compared with April, the CPI fell 0.9 % due to a 2.1 % drop in the food price index, while non‑food prices were essentially unchanged.

Food categories saw notable declines: vegetables –8.6 %, fish and seafood –3.7 %, meat –1.9 %, dairy –1.7 %, oils and fats –0.8 %, coffee/tea/cocoa –0.4 %. Fruit and beverages rose 0.2 %. Fuel prices fell 3.6 %. Regional CPI reductions were recorded in Asfi (‑2.1 %), Beni Mellal (‑1.3 %), Casablanca‑Tangier‑Al Hoceima (‑1.2 %), Fez‑Rashidia (‑1.1 %), and others. The core inflation index, which excludes volatile items, rose 0.3 % month‑on‑month and declined 0.1 % year‑on‑year.
