Morocco's industrial production index falls 1.4% in Q1 2026

Morocco's industrial production, energy and mining index showed an overall 1.4% decline for manufacturing industries (excluding oil refining) in the first quarter of 2026. The drop was driven by sharp falls in several sectors: other non‑metallic mineral products -8.6%, clothing -8.1%, metallurgy -8.9%, electrical equipment -11.3%, food -3.5%, metal products excluding machines -5.8% and chemicals -1.4%. The extractive industries index also fell 1.9%, reflecting a 2.0% decrease in diverse extractive products while metallic mineral production rose 0.7%. Electricity generation contracted by 3.7%.

Despite the broader downturn, some segments recorded strong growth. Automotive manufacturing rose 4.5%, as did the pharmaceutical sector. Production of other transport equipment surged 28.2%, and manufacturing of computer, electronic and optical goods increased 7.1%. Beverage production grew 2.1%.

These movements illustrate a mixed performance across Morocco's industrial base, with notable resilience in automotive, pharma and high‑tech equipment amid broader sectoral weakness.
