Mos mayor Nidia Arévalo leads protest over N‑550 road safety

Around 150 residents of Mos gathered in front of the Spanish Government sub‑delegation in Pontevedra, demanding urgent safety upgrades and repairs on the N‑550 highway that crosses the municipality. The demonstration was organised by the town’s mayor, Nidia Arévalo, together with local neighbourhood associations, and called for measures such as urban‑road conversion of certain sections, redesign of the Louredo junction, resurfacing at Amieirolongo, better signage, sidewalk works and drainage cleaning.

The protesters said the Ministry of Transport has ignored repeated requests, impacting thousands of drivers, pedestrians and pilgrims daily. The municipal commission announced it will intensify actions, with a planned road closure as the next step, date to be set later. Sub‑delegate Abel Losada dismissed the demands as technically resolved and accused the mayor of politicising the issue to protect a commercial‑complex project.

Arévalo replied that the protest was peaceful and highlighted the “unacceptable silence” of the central government, urging dialogue and warning that the community will keep mobilising until the N‑550 receives the long‑overdue safety improvements.
