Mos mayor urges urgent road safety actions after N‑550 traffic crash

A front‑on collision between a car and a van on the N‑550 at kilometre 152 near the parish of Louredo in Mos left two people injured on Monday morning. The car driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was rescued by emergency crews before being taken to Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro. The van driver exited on his own but also required medical assistance. The accident forced a complete closure of the N‑550 for about an hour.

Mos municipal council says the crash underscores long‑standing safety concerns on the road, which they claim is ill‑suited to the heavy residential, commercial and industrial traffic it carries. Mayor Nidia Arévalo called the incident “not a coincidence or an isolated fact” and demanded that the road be declared an urban crossing in several sections, that speed‑reduction measures be introduced and that pedestrian and driver protection be improved. She criticised the Subdelegation of the Government for not responding to repeated requests for meetings and written petitions. The council reaffirmed its support for a protest scheduled for 10 July in front of the Subdelegation in Pontevedra to press for immediate action.
