Moscow restaurant blast kills five, injures 19 FAST-MOVING
A homemade bomb exploded at the upscale Italian restaurant Balzi Rossi in central Moscow on the night of 1 August 2026. The device was hidden in a gift box carried by a woman who was stopped by a security guard before the bomb detonated remotely, killing the woman, the guard and a patron.
Initial reports listed three fatalities, but later updates confirmed five dead and 19 injured, many seriously. The blast occurred during a private celebration that Russian media linked to General Alexander Chaiko’s 55th birthday, though the general was not harmed. Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the incident as a "brutal terrorist act" and said the perpetrators would be found. The Russian embassy in Italy blamed Ukrainian terrorists, while no group has claimed responsibility. Chef Carmine Alfieri and his kitchen brigade escaped injury.
