Western Balkans advances infrastructure and energy projects
The Western Balkans region is seeing significant infrastructure and energy developments. In Serbia, construction has begun on the Kadinjača tunnel and six bridges, a project valued at approximately 200 million KM aimed at improving connectivity with Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Novo Trebinje urban project continues with a new tender for a 126-meter bridge over the Trebišnjica river, following a previous tender for a 309 million KM congress center. However, the HE Bistrica hydroelectric project has seen costs surge by 66 percent, rising from 201 million to over 335 million KM.
In Montenegro, energy and digital integration are key priorities. The Ministry of Energy highlighted new investments in the Trans-Balkan Corridor and wind power, while the Digital Summit in Herceg Novi focused on regional digital connectivity. Meanwhile, environmental concerns persist, with officials warning of systemic issues in waste management and air quality.
Diplomatic and educational cooperation also remains active. North Macedonia and Montenegro are working to strengthen regional ties and European integration. In Turkey, Albanian defense ministry officials met with Albanian medical students studying in Ankara to discuss the importance of medical training for future armed forces personnel.
