Mother of British Sikh murderer sentenced for taking murder weapon

Kiran Kaur, a 53‑year‑old Indian‑born mother, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by Southampton Crown Court for taking possession of the knife used by her son, Vickrum Digwa, to stab 18‑year‑old Henry Nowak to death in Southampton on 3 December 2025. Digwa, aged 23, had already received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years for the murder and for carrying a knife in public. The case drew attention after Digwa attempted to justify the weapon as a kirpan, a ceremonial Sikh knife.

Nowak’s family released a statement expressing disappointment with the mother’s sentence and urging continued investigations, including into two Hampshire police officers placed under gross‑misconduct probes after body‑camera footage showed the victim handcuffed before he died. The sentencing highlighted the court’s stance that assisting an offender by removing evidence will also be punished.
