MotoGP 2027 technical changes to feature Pirelli tires
MotoGP is set to undergo significant technical changes in 2027, including a reduction in engine displacement from 1000cc to 850cc, restrictions on aerodynamics, and the removal of ride-height devices. However, rider Marc Marquez suggests that the transition from Michelin to Pirelli as the sole tire supplier will be the most impactful change for competitors.
Marquez noted that while the bikes will be less powerful, the shift in tire characteristics will be the primary differentiator. He also suggested that younger riders transitioning from Moto2 might hold an advantage, as they are already accustomed to using Pirelli tires in that category.
Regarding the commercial structure of the championship, Pirelli will become the exclusive manufacturer for all Grand Prix categories, including Moto2 and Moto3, starting in 2027. In such single-supplier racing formats, the tire manufacturer pays the championship organizer to secure the exclusive rights to supply the series.
