Motor Oil returns to MSCI Greece Standard Index

Motor Oil is returning to the MSCI Greece Standard Index, becoming the tenth constituent of the index. This change, following the August Index Review by MSCI, is set to take effect on September 1, following the rebalancing on August 31.

Motor Oil’s return follows its removal from the index in August 2024. Since then, the company’s share price has risen significantly, moving from approximately 20 euros to around 53 euros, with a market capitalization approaching 5.9 billion euros. This growth has increased its free float to levels required for the Standard Index.

As a result of this shift, Motor Oil will exit the MSCI Greece Small Cap Index, making room for Kri Kri, which will join the Small Cap index. The current composition of the MSCI Greece Standard Index will now include National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, Piraeus Bank, Alpha Bank, PPC (DEI), GEK TERNAs, OTE, Jumbo, Allwyn, and Motor Oil.

Greece remains classified as an emerging market by MSCI. However, a transition to developed market status is scheduled for May 2027, following a decision expected in March 2026.
