Fatal motorcycle accidents claim lives in Peru and Dominican Republic

In Piura, Peru, 73‑year‑old mototaxi driver Manuel Palas Atoche was killed when his unregistered vehicle was violently struck by a motorcycle driven by 19‑year‑old Santiago Leiva Céspedes on Avenida José Aguilar. The collision destroyed the mototaxi; the motorcyclist was injured and taken for medical care. Police from the Unit for Prevention and Investigation of Traffic Accidents are investigating possible speed, imprudence or other factors.

In El Seibo province, Dominican Republic, 60‑year‑old Eriberto Núñez Solano, known as “Doctor,” died after his motorcycle collided with a cow on the Magarín‑Candelaria road near Magarín. He was not wearing a helmet and succumbed to his injuries at Hospital Dr. Teófilo Hernández. Authorities from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Transport are probing the circumstances of the crash.
