Motorcycle Deaths Rise Across Bosnia and Croatia in Summer

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, June recorded a string of fatal motorcycle crashes: a 24‑year‑old Czech woman died in Drvar after colliding with her father; a 2004‑born teenager was killed in Kiseljak; a 27‑year‑old died in Trebinje; another rider died in Teslić; and a 45‑year‑old motorcyclist succumbed to injuries in Mostar after a crash on 12 June. Experts attribute the surge to high temperatures, driver fatigue, and the sudden influx of motorcycles, bicycles and e‑scooters on roads that were quieter in winter, noting that many riders forgo helmets in the heat.

In Croatia's Istria region, police disclosed that a child who died near Buzet on 29 June had been riding an unregistered motorcycle during the night of 27–28 June, without a helmet and before obtaining a driving licence. The investigation includes an autopsy ordered by the state prosecutor, while authorities continue to ascertain the circumstances of the accident.
