Motorhome restrictions and wild camping issues rise in France and Luxembourg

Local authorities in Brittany, France, are increasing restrictions on motorhome parking to manage record visitor numbers. In areas such as Morbihan, Côtes-d’Armor, and the Quiberon peninsula, municipalities are implementing stricter nighttime parking rules and limited hours to improve traffic flow and protect fragile natural spaces from wild camping.

The Comité de Liaison du Camping-car has challenged some of these measures in administrative court, arguing that the principle of freedom of movement must be respected and that blanket bans on entire municipalities may be legally unsound.

In Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg, environmental concerns have been raised regarding illegal wild camping at a Park and Ride (P+R) site. Staff at the Maison de la nature report that the nearby forest has suffered from significant pollution, including waste and human excrement, caused by travelers staying in the parking area for extended periods despite explicit prohibitions.
