Mount Bromo tourism closed amid spreading forest fires
Severe forest fires are ravaging multiple regions in Indonesia. In East Java, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has implemented a total closure of all tourist entry points due to rapidly spreading fires. The blaze, fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation, has moved from the Sabana Pengol area in Probolinggo toward Jemplang in Malang Regency, threatening local landmarks like Bromo Hillside and causing panic among visitors.
In Kalimantan, Japan has provided humanitarian assistance by deploying three Chinook helicopters and 338 personnel to support forest fire suppression efforts. These assets are operating under the command of Lanud Supadio to conduct water bombing operations.
Additionally, widespread wildfires continue to affect seven mountains across East Java, including Mount Semeru, which recently experienced an eruption with volcanic ash reaching 4.5 km in height. Authorities are working to contain hotspots across various regencies to mitigate environmental and health risks.
