Mount Bromo forest fire extinguished; cooling operations underway
The forest and land fire in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in East Java has been extinguished. According to the Ministry of Forestry, active flames are no longer detected, and authorities are now focusing on cooling operations and intensive monitoring to prevent reignition from remaining embers.
The fire, which affected over 1,000 hectares of land, prompted the closure of all Mount Bromo tourist entrances. This closure has impacted the local economy, particularly for residents relying on tourism services such as lodging and transportation. In response, East Java Vice Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak has instructed emergency personnel to prioritize purchasing food and supplies from local village stalls to support the community during the shutdown.
Extinguishing efforts involved a large-scale joint operation including the TNI, Polri, and various disaster management agencies. Aerial water bombing was utilized, with three helicopters deployed to reach isolated areas, delivering approximately 31,000 liters of water.
