Mount Žeden wildfire brought under control near Boyane

The wildfire on Mount Žeden, which had been active for several days, is now under full control. Firefighters from the Tetovo Territorial Firefighting Unit successfully intervened near the village of Boyane, preventing the flames from spreading to forest areas, vineyards, and orchards.

The fire initially started on the Tetovo side of the mountain before wind and dry vegetation pushed it toward the Skopje region, causing significant smoke to drift over the capital. Authorities report that the fire is approximately 90 percent extinguished, and the smoke levels in Skopje are expected to decrease.

Officials have announced helicopter reconnaissance of the mountain massif to conduct a full assessment of the situation. Firefighting units remain on alert due to high temperatures and a high frequency of daily fires in the region.
