Mount Fuji access routes closed following landslides and heavy rain

Heavy rainfall in Japan has triggered landslides near major access routes to Mount Fuji, causing significant disruption and safety concerns. In Shizuoka Prefecture, a landslide at one of the mountain's primary trailheads buried three vehicles, though no injuries were reported at that specific site. The Fuji Subaru Line has been closed due to the weather.

Local authorities and the Shizuoka Prefectural Police reported that two climbers were found in cardiopulmonary arrest on the mountain trails. While police stated there was no direct link between these specific individuals and the landslides, the extreme weather has led to multiple distress calls. Additionally, a separate landslide in Kawanehon Town resulted in one fatality.

The heavy rains have also impacted surrounding regions. In Aichi and Gifu Prefectures, flooding and rain led to 41 injuries. Nagoya recorded record-breaking rainfall, with 104.5 mm falling in a single hour, causing significant delays in local transportation services. Local officials have urged hikers to avoid the area as mountain huts begin closing for the season.
