Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupts, ash plume 1 km high in East Flores
On 2 August 2026 at 17:12 WITA, Mount Lewotobi Laki‑laki in East Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia erupted, sending a grey ash column up to about 1 000 metres above the summit. The eruption was recorded on seismograms with a maximum amplitude of 18.5 mm and lasted roughly 2 minutes 27 seconds, with the ash plume drifting toward the west and northwest.
The volcano observatory (PVMBG) raised the alert to Level III and advised residents within a 5‑km radius to stay clear of the area, avoid outdoor activities, wear masks to protect against ash inhalation, and be prepared for possible lahars if heavy rain occurs. Local authorities are coordinating with the PVMBG and disaster‑management agencies to monitor the situation and provide updates.
