Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupts in East Nusa Tenggara

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, erupted on Thursday morning, August 27, 2026, at approximately 08:30 WITA. The eruption was accompanied by a loud explosion and produced a thick gray ash column reaching an estimated height of 2,500 meters above the peak.

Seismogram recordings indicated a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of approximately 125 seconds. The ash plume was observed moving toward the southwest and west. The volcano is currently designated at Alert Level III (Siaga).

The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has advised residents, tourists, and visitors to avoid all activities within a 5 km radius of the eruption center. Authorities also warned of the potential for rain-induced volcanic mudflows (lahar) in rivers originating from the summit, particularly if heavy rainfall occurs. Residents in areas such as Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote are urged to remain vigilant.
