Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupts multiple times, ash plumes reach 800 m in Indonesia

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, erupted three times on the early morning of 25 July 2026. The first blast produced an ash column about 300 m high, followed by a second eruption that sent ash up to 600 m and a third that again reached roughly 300 m. Seismic recordings showed amplitudes of up to 10.5 mm and durations exceeding three minutes.

On 26 July 2026 the volcano erupted four more times. Ash columns rose to about 500 m, 300 m, another 300 m and a maximum of roughly 800 m, the highest plume of the day. The volcano‑monitoring agency PVMBG recorded seismic amplitudes ranging from 5.1 mm to 29.6 mm with durations from 37 seconds to nearly two minutes. Residents were advised to remain at least 5 km from the summit as the ash drifted west‑ward and southwest.

Authorities continue to monitor the activity and have urged local communities to stay clear of the danger zone while further eruptions cannot be ruled out.
