Mount Merapi launches hot cloud 2 km southwest, officials warn residents
On Friday 10 July 2026 at 08:31 local time, Mount Merapi in the Yogyakarta Special Region and Central Java emitted a hot cloud that travelled about 2 km toward the southwest, reaching the upstream areas of the Sat and Putih rivers. The BPPTKG measured the cloud’s maximum amplitude at 34.08 mm and a duration of 137.4 seconds.
The agency recorded ten lava falls and 29 rock‑fall events earlier that morning, with ongoing strong seismic activity. Merapi remains at Alert Level III (Siaga). Authorities urged people to stay out of the hazardous zone, especially the southern‑western sector and river valleys, and to follow official updates.
