Mount Rinjani Senaru hiking trail reopens after forest fires

The Senaru hiking trail on Mount Rinjani in North Lombok has officially reopened as of October 3, 2026, following a temporary closure due to forest fires. The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) authorities announced the reopening after conducting safety assessments and ensuring all fire activity had been extinguished.

Forest fires previously affected approximately 1,098.75 hectares of the area, impacting vegetation such as mountain pines, shrubs, and savanna. Following the fire suppression efforts, which were completed by October 1, officials conducted evaluations of the terrain, infrastructure, and potential hazards like fallen trees to ensure visitor safety.

With the reopening of the Senaru route, five hiking paths in the Mount Rinjani National Park are now operating normally: Sembalun, Senaru, Tibanuh, Tetebatu, and Aik Berik. Hikers are advised to register online via the eRinjani application.
