Indonesia's Dukono and Semeru Volcanoes Erupt on July 15, 2026

Two Indonesian volcanoes erupted on July 15, 2026. In Maluku Utara, Mount Dukono sent an ash column up to 2.3 km high and remained active, prompting the volcanology agency to keep the volcano at Alert Level II and advise residents and visitors to stay at least 4 km away and wear masks.

In East Java, Mount Semeru produced an ash plume about 1.2 km high, causing thin ash rain in Lumajang Regency. The mountain stayed at Alert Level III, with authorities warning of possible pyroclastic flows, lava, and lahar, and recommending people avoid the summit area and wear protective masks.

Both eruptions were recorded by seismographs, showing significant amplitude and duration, and underline ongoing volcanic hazards in Indonesia.
