Mount Sinai Health System to halt transgender medical care for minors

Several legal and regulatory developments are impacting religious and parental rights. In the United States, New York’s Mount Sinai Health System has reached an agreement with the Justice Department to cease providing transgender medical interventions to minors, such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries. The agreement includes a financial penalty and a $2 million allocation for medical care for individuals harmed by such treatments received during their youth.

Additionally, a legal challenge is underway regarding California law that restricts schools from notifying parents when a child identifies as transgender. A coalition of 17 state attorneys general and various organizations have filed briefs supporting parental authority in directing a child's upbringing.

In Europe, the European Union’s Court of Justice is reviewing a case involving the Diocese of Ghent. The court is determining whether the diocese must erase baptismal information under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
