Mountain incidents in Italy result in one death and one rescue
Two separate mountain incidents occurred in Italy involving hikers.
On the Monte Mutria massif, Alpine rescue technicians from the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS) successfully rescued a 49-year-old man from Campania. The hiker had strayed from established paths and became trapped in steep, exposed terrain. Rescuers used mountaineering techniques to safely escort him back to his vehicle; he was reported to be in good health.
In a separate tragedy on the Tofane near Cortina d’Ampezzo, a 63-year-old Italian hiker died after falling into a channel near Tofana di Dentro. Family members alerted authorities after losing contact with him. An emergency helicopter located the man's body approximately 70 meters below the trail. Medical teams confirmed his death at the scene.
