Mountain rescue in Belluno saves Polish climbers and German hikers

Around 19:20 on 25 July 2026, a Suem helicopter from Pieve di Cadore was dispatched to the west face of Civetta in the Belluno province after two Polish alpinists lost their route on the Via Solleder‑Lettembauer. Hovering at 2,890 m, the crew located the climbers on fragile rock, lowered a 90‑m winch and rescued them in two lifts, then transferred them to Rifugio Tissi for medical care.

At about 20:20 the same rescue centre received a call from a German group of hikers – two adult guides (24 and 29 years old) and six girls aged 12‑16 – who were unable to continue along trail 487 toward Bivacco Tovanella due to fatigue and panic. Two Alpine rescue technicians were flown in to assist; one guide and two of the most exhausted girls were taken to Longarone by helicopter. When the remaining party could not move, an emergency Treviso heli‑ambulance arrived at 22:10, winched the girls to safety in two trips, and brought them to Longarone for medical checks. The operation concluded around 00:30.
