Torrecerredo peak: British climber dies in 60-meter fall

A 28-year-old British mountaineer has died after falling approximately 60 meters (200 feet) while descending from the summit of Torrecerredo in the Picos de Europa, northern Spain. The accident occurred on a Thursday afternoon when the climber fell into a vertical gully on the eastern face of the mountain, which stands at an elevation of roughly 2,650 meters.

Spanish emergency services and the Civil Guard's mountain rescue unit (GREIM) responded to the incident. Specialists were lowered by winch to retrieve the man's body and belongings. The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with local authorities regarding the death of the British national. The victim's remains were transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Asturias.

During the same afternoon, emergency services also responded to a separate incident in the nearby Jou Sin Tierre area. A 54-year-old French woman was rescued after suffering a leg injury, suspected to be a fracture of the tibia and fibula, and was evacuated to the Hospital del Oriente in Arriondas.
