Italian mountain rescues aid injured hikers and migrant in Abruzzo, Trentino and Piedmont

A 25‑year‑old woman from Sicily fell on the Corno Grande of the Gran Sasso (≈2,700 m) in Abruzzo. She suffered multiple traumas, was immobilised on‑spine and air‑lifted by the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico and an A‑quila helicopter to the hospital in L’Aquila.

In Trentino, a woman in her seventies slipped near the Rifugio Velo della Madonna at about 2,300 m, injuring her ankle. The local Alpine rescue unit deployed three operators and an emergency helicopter, which evacuated her to the hospital in Cavalese. The service also released heat‑related safety advice for mountain visitors.

In the Piedmont valley of Vallone del Frejus above Bardonecchia (≈2,000 m), a foreign migrant was injured and showed early signs of hypothermia. Ground teams from the Alpine rescue, the Guardia di Finanza, Carabinieri and regional air‑rescue crews conducted a night‑long operation, ultimately hoisting the victim with a winch and transporting him to hospital with a leg fracture.

All three incidents involved coordinated actions by Italy’s alpine rescue organisations and aerial units to stabilise and evacuate the victims.
