Movimento 5 Stelle criticizes nature restoration plan approach

The Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) has criticized a proposal by the National Association of Italian Municipalities (Anci) and the National Association of Construction Companies regarding the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Plan.

Anci expressed concerns that the plan's provisions, particularly potential retroactive measures, could create uncertainty for local authorities and construction firms regarding planned territorial transformations. In response, M5S leaders, including provincial coordinator Silvia Alberici, characterized this stance as a “short-sighted vision” that fails to address the urgency of the climate crisis.

The M5S argues that nature restoration should not oppose economic development but rather drive innovation. They advocate for recovering existing spaces, depaving impermeable areas, and increasing urban greenery to protect soil and biodiversity rather than consuming new land.
