Mozambique advances climate-resilient agriculture and energy sector strategies
Mozambique is implementing strategic initiatives to bolster its economic resilience through climate-focused agriculture and energy sector development. The government has launched a climate investment plan for agri-food systems, inviting both public and private sector actors to submit project concept notes. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, the Ministry of Planning and Development, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, aims to build a portfolio of scalable, market-viable projects to protect food systems from extreme weather.
Simultaneously, the national hydrocarbons company, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), is undergoing a leadership transition under Chairman Rudêncio Morais. Morais aims to strengthen ENH’s commercial and operational capabilities to better manage the country’s significant natural gas reserves. The strategy focuses on expanding domestic gas infrastructure and increasing local participation in the energy value chain to ensure resource wealth translates into broader economic benefits.
