Brazil launches home delivery for new national identity cards

Brazil is introducing the new Carteira de Identidade Nacional (CIN), which standardises the citizen identification number by using the CPF across the country. The document includes modern security features such as biometric data and digital authentication. While the issuance process still requires an in‑person appointment for document verification, several states – including São Paulo and Minas Gerais – are beginning to send the completed cards to applicants by mail. Other states are expected to adopt the service as they upgrade their digital systems, with Espírito Santo planning rollout by the end of 2026. The reform aims to reduce travel for citizens, improve fraud prevention, and streamline access to public and private services.

Applicants must schedule an online appointment, present required documents, undergo biometric capture, and then await processing. Once approved, the CIN can be collected at the issuing office or delivered to the applicant’s residence where the service is available.
