Mozambique expands solar energy sector through new investments
Mozambique is seeing an increase in solar energy investment, fostering a new industrial sector around renewable energy. In the first half of 2026, solar production reached 52,576 MWh, a 6.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. While solar currently accounts for only 0.7% of the national electricity matrix, the growth is driven by government efforts to diversify energy sources and expand electricity access.
Through the PROLER program, which attracts independent power producers via competitive bidding, Canadian company JCM Power has been selected to develop a 30 MW solar plant in Manje, Tete. Additionally, a process was launched in 2026 for a 30 MW solar plant in Dondo, Sofala, which requires significant local participation.
The expansion of large-scale photovoltaic parks is creating demand across various sectors, including engineering, construction, logistics, electrical installation, and maintenance. Emerging opportunities also exist in operations and maintenance, energy management software, and smart metering systems.
