Mozambique invests in border modernization and agriculture
Mozambique is undertaking significant infrastructure and agricultural investments to boost regional trade and productivity. The government has launched a 980 million meticais (approximately 14.9 million USD) project to rehabilitate the Ressano Garcia One-Stop Border Post. This modernization aims to upgrade technological infrastructure, develop a freight road terminal, and implement express lanes to reduce logistics costs and improve the movement of goods and people between Mozambique and South Africa.
Additionally, a 37.2 million USD project has been budgeted for the modernization and expansion of the Machipanda Border. This initiative will implement a One-Stop Border Post system to allow joint inspections by Mozambican and Zimbabwean agencies, streamlining clearance along the Beira Corridor. Construction is expected to begin in October, with a target completion date in 2029.
In the agricultural sector, the Mozambican government plans to mobilize approximately 2 billion USD over the next four years to increase productivity. This investment aims to support over 2 million producers through improved irrigation, mechanization, and access to high-quality seeds and fertilizers, with priority given to the Chókwè and Baixo Limpopo irrigation areas.
