Mozambique lost 43.6 million euros to corruption in H1

Mozambique lost approximately 3.23 billion meticais (roughly 43.6 million euros) to corruption during the first half of the year, according to the Central Anti-Corruption Office (GCCC).

Of the 1,646 processes handled by the GCCC in the first half of the year, 559 were concluded. Among these, 368 resulted in accusations and are proceeding through legal channels, while 191 were archived due to insufficient evidence. The most frequent crimes identified include passive corruption (306 cases), abuse of office or function (144 cases), active corruption (103 cases), simulation of competence (74 cases), and embezzlement (68 cases).

Authorities reported that they have recovered 581,130 meticais (approximately 7,841 euros) as a result of their investigations.
