Mozambique mourns 5 deaths as road crash and xenophobic attacks claim lives

A semi‑colectivo passenger vehicle belonging to Nagy Investment overturned on the EN6 highway near Cafumpe in Manica province, Mozambique, killing three people and injuring 29, including two children. The crash occurred early Saturday around 5 a.m.; authorities said excessive speed and driver fatigue were likely causes. Victims were taken to the Provincial Hospital in Chimoio for treatment.

In a separate incident, armed xenophobic attackers in Primrose, Germiston, Gauteng, South Africa, killed two Mozambican nationals and severely wounded two others. The assault is part of a wave of anti‑immigrant violence that has raised the death toll of Mozambicans in South Africa to eleven. Mozambique’s consular officials are assisting families and arranging repatriation for the injured and deceased.
