Mozambique President considers tax relief for young entrepreneurs

President Daniel Chapo has announced that the Mozambican government is studying the possibility of exempting young people from business registration fees. The proposal also includes the potential creation of a specific tax regime for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to stimulate entrepreneurship and facilitate business formalization.

During a meeting with the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) in Maputo, Chapo noted that high formalization costs currently act as a barrier for youth seeking to access business opportunities and public tenders. The President emphasized the need to review financing mechanisms, such as the Mutual Guarantee Fund, and to simplify banking procedures to improve access to credit.

Chapo stated that the government is working with the Central Bank to define monetary policies aimed at boosting the productive economy. ANJE chairperson Mara Cancune, representing approximately 3,000 entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35, described the meeting as a milestone for the association.
