Mozambique targets 2027 for nationwide 5G expansion

Mozambique is accelerating its national digital transformation through expanded telecommunications infrastructure and connectivity initiatives. The government has set a June 2027 deadline to deploy 5G services to all provincial capitals. To support this, the Instituto Nacional das Comunicações de Moçambique (INCM) has issued spectrum licenses to operators Tmcel, Vodacom Mozambique, and Movitel to deploy 5G networks and strengthen 4G coverage.

In addition to mobile network expansion, the government has connected 149 localities to the internet, with plans to expand to an additional 300 locations. This digital push includes providing internet access to 418 schools and distributing over 14,000 computers to low-income higher education students.

Administrative modernization is also underway, highlighted by the implementation of an e-Visa system which has processed over 41,000 applications in 25 weeks. The government has also established 10 digital plazas offering free internet access to promote information democratization.
