Mozambique targets industrialization through cashew investment and South Korean partnerships
Mozambique is launching major initiatives to industrialize its natural resources and revitalize key sectors. The government plans to invest over $241 million over the next decade to boost cashew nut production and processing. This move aims to reduce the country's dependence on raw material exports by funding new warehouses, processing units, and the modernization of existing factories. Currently, the sector faces challenges such as obsolete technology, with only one of eight existing factories operational in the recent campaign.
In a separate push for industrial growth, Mozambique is seeking South Korean investment to process natural gas and critical minerals locally. During the Mozambique-South Korea Business Forum, officials called for the application of South Korean technology in the chemical, metallurgical, and food industries. Discussions also highlighted cooperation in green energy, decarbonization, solar energy, and pharmaceutical distribution. The goal is to shift from a traditional raw material export model to one that promotes job creation, technological transfer, and local value chain integration.
