Mozilla adds AI-powered crossword widget to Firefox New Tab page

Mozilla is introducing a set of new widgets to the Firefox New Tab page, the most notable being an AI‑powered daily crossword. The puzzle is generated by Particle, an AI news platform that summarizes the day’s headlines and creates clues drawn from those stories. Users can solve the crossword directly in the browser, with each answer linking to the related article.

The widget area also includes a to‑do list, timer, stock checker, world clock, weather display, picture of the day and a privacy report, all of which can be moved, resized or disabled. Mozilla is rolling the features out gradually to users in select regions and locales and provides manual enablement for Firefox 153 and later via the about:config settings. The rollout has no fixed date, but the functionality is already documented as part of Firefox’s upcoming Nova redesign.
