MPMS launches specialized unit to defend the Pantanal

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul (MPMS) has launched a specialized Environmental Unit for the Pantanal to strengthen the defense of the region. The unit will operate across nine municipalities, including Corumbá, Bonito, Miranda, and Aquidauana, covering more than 70% of the Pantanal region in the state.

Led by Prosecutor Ana Rachel Borges de Figueiredo Nina, the structure aims to support prosecutors in handling complex environmental processes and judicial procedures. The unit will focus on prevention, inspection, and accountability for environmental damage, working in coordination with the Environmental Operational Support Center (Caoma).
