MPR RI launches books on Indonesian constitutional history

The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of Indonesia has launched two books aimed at documenting the nation's constitutional history and the evolution of its democratic institutions. The launch took place at the historic Gedung Merdeka in Bandung, West Java, a site noted for hosting the 1955 Asian-African Conference.

The books, titled ‘Merawat Memori Konstitusi: Sejarah dan Risalah MPR dalam Meneguhkan Demokrasi Indonesia’, record the institutional history of the MPR and the crucial processes involved in the amendments to the 1945 Constitution between 1999 and 2002.

MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani emphasized that Indonesia's democracy and constitution did not emerge in a vacuum but were shaped through extensive debate and the exchange of ideas. Dedi Iskandar Batubara, Chairman of the DPD RI Group within the MPR, noted that documenting these political and legal dynamics is essential to ensure that the nation's constitutional journey serves as a valuable legacy for future generations.
