MRC: Court declares itself incompetent in internal governance dispute
The Yaoundé-Ekounou Court of First Instance has declared itself incompetent to rule on a legal challenge regarding the internal governance of the Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun (MRC).
On September 17, 2026, the court issued an order declining to act on a request made by Willy Mengue, Laure Noutchang, and Sébastien Mbala Wouria II. The petitioners had sought the appointment of an ad hoc judicial receiver to “normalize” the party’s operations, specifically contesting the circumstances surrounding Maurice Kamto’s return to the party leadership in December 2025.
The defense for the MRC argued that a summary judge lacks the authority to intervene in the internal organizational matters of a political party, a position supported by the public prosecutor. While the ruling provides temporary relief to the current party leadership, it does not resolve the underlying dispute. The petitioners have been advised to seek alternative legal avenues to address the conflict.
