Overview
The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) is engaged in a legal and political dispute with the Cameroonian Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) regarding the recognition of a party convention held in December 2025. On September 17, 2026, the Yaoundé-Ekounou Court of First Instance declared itself incompetent to rule on a legal challenge seeking to ‘normalize’ party operations. Amidst this, the leadership race saw several shifts. Initially, three candidates—Ronnie Bris Djolako, Tiriane Balbine Noah, and Pierre Emmanuel Binyam—sought to succeed Kamto. However, Djolako withdrew his candidacy and endorsed Noah, who had been serving as interim president. Binyam also withdrew shortly before the scheduled October 17 convention, citing ‘significant irregularities’ in the electoral file.
Following the extraordinary convention, Tiriane Balbine Noah was elected national president. In the aftermath, Binyam clarified that despite his earlier withdrawal, he remains attached to the party and warned against the ‘instrumentalization’ of his name to destabilize the formation. As the party begins organizing for the 2027 electoral cycle, legal disputes involving excluded officials continue.
