MRC disputes Cameroonian Ministry's refusal to recognize party convention

The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) is engaged in a legal dispute with the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) following the Minister's refusal to recognize the party's convention held in December.

According to the MRC, the dispute arose when the Ministry treated a mandatory transmission of party statutes and internal regulations, submitted on January 5, 2026, as a formal request for authorization rather than a simple notification. The MRC argues that Law 90/056 regarding political parties requires the transmission of these documents but does not mandate an approval process.

Furthermore, the Ministry, led by Paul Atanga Nji, cited a failure to comply with laws regarding public meetings. The MRC has challenged this, noting that their convention was held via videoconference, making the application of laws regarding physical territorial declarations questionable. The party has characterized these administrative actions as a ‘tentative de déstabilisation’ (attempt at destabilization) ahead of the 2027 legislative and municipal elections.
