MRC leadership race shifts as Brice Ronnic Djolako withdraws
The leadership race for Cameroon’s Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun (MRC) has shifted significantly following the withdrawal of Brice Ronnic Djolako. Djolako announced his decision to retract his candidacy for the national presidency, along with his entire list, ahead of the party's extraordinary convention scheduled for October 17, 2026.
Djolako has officially endorsed Tiriane Balbine Nadège Noah, who has been serving as the interim president since the departure of founder Maurice Kamto. This endorsement follows the recent support of former vice-president Mamadou Mota for Noah. The withdrawal reduces the competition to two primary contenders: Noah and Pierre Emmanuel Binyam.
Noah’s candidacy is characterized by continuity and the support of party loyalists, while Binyam advocates for a platform of openness and building coalitions for the 2027 municipal and legislative elections. Maurice Kamto has remained silent since his resignation on September 8 and has not yet issued official campaign instructions.
