MRC militant petitions to block October 17 party convention

A member of the Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun (MRC) communal federation of Sangmélima, Cyrille Edou, has petitioned the sub-prefect of Yaoundé IV to block an extraordinary party convention scheduled for October 17.

Edou argues that the convention lacks legal standing because the individuals who called for it do not have the authority to do so. He cites the party's statutes, noting that conventions are typically convened by the National President or at the request of two-thirds of the National Council. Edou contends that since Maurice Kamto resigned from the MRC presidency on June 25, 2025, to join MANIDEM, the party has failed to follow internal regulations to install a new leadership presidium.

According to the petitioner, the party is currently “acephalous,” meaning it lacks a presiding head, making the current summons invalid. Additionally, the petition cites “strong internal tensions” within the party as a reason to cancel the scheduled meeting at the national headquarters in Odza.
