Pierre Emmanuel Binyam withdraws from MRC presidential race
Pierre Emmanuel Binyam has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun (MRC) just two days before the party's extraordinary convention scheduled for October 17, 2026.
Prior to his withdrawal, Binyam's camp had issued several demands to ensure a credible election, including the publication of an updated voter list, more time for members to pay dues, and financial support for delegates from the Grand Nord region. Binyam argued that requiring full payment of dues would exclude a large portion of the electorate, estimating that fewer than 25% of delegates were up to date.
Mamadou Mota, campaign coordinator for interim president Tiriane Balbine Noah, dismissed these demands as a “desperate” attempt to mask an inevitable electoral defeat. Following Binyam's withdrawal, the planned leadership duel has been canceled, leaving Noah's list to proceed without its primary challenger. Binyam's spokesperson, Marie Flore Mboussi, stated that the withdrawal does not signify an end to their fight for a more democratic and transparent party.
